Charnwood Carers Service is facilitated by a development worker, based at John Storer House in Loughborough. The Service acts as a local point of contact and works with other agencies and support groups to raise awareness of carers' issues.
The Service Provides
- Information about support groups, carers' assessments, respite care, transport, benefits and grants
- Loughborough carers' group meets on the first Thursday of the month, 1.30pm-3.00pm at John Storer House
- Shepshed carers' group meets on the third Tuesday of the month, 2.00-4.00pm at Charnwood Road Community Centre, Shepshed
- Sileby & District carers' group meets at varying times usually over a lunch, please contact me, below, for details.
- Syston carers' group meets on the second Monday of the month, 2.00pm-3.30pm at St Peter's Court.
- a carers' forum, which meets quarterly at venues around the Borough, giving carers and service providers the opportunity to meet and discuss issues which are important to carers
- a quarterly newsletter, covering local and national carers' issues.

Who is a carer?
A carer is someone who has the responsibility for providing or arranging for care for someone else who, because of long-term illness, disability or old age, is not able to care for him or herself.
A carer can be a parent; a son or daughter, a brother or sister; a husband, wife or partner; a relative, friend or neighbour.
The care that they provide can include such things as nursing care, therapy and treatment; personal care; emotional support; assisting with mobility; financial management; domestic support; supervision.
