Abbey Charitable Trust supports local communities and disadvantaged people, particularly in those areas where Abbey has a significant presence. Projects must meet one (or more) of the following three priorities to help disadvantaged people: Education and training; financial advice to help people manage their money; community regeneration. http://digbig.com/4xnbr or http://www.abbeynational.com

Action Earth provides grants of up to £50 to assist groups in carrying out environmental projects. Action Earth 2008 runs until 31 July.

Age Concern offers grants for new or expanding services or activities which directly benefit older people. The Barclays Programme offers grants of up to £150 to voluntary organisations with an income or turnover of less than £50,000 per annum. The Bright Ideas programme offers grants of up to £2,000 to voluntary organisations with an income or turnover of less than £200,000 per annum.

Alexandra Rose Day helps smaller, usually very local, charities that do not have the national profile or manpower to achieve significant fundraising on their own.

The foundation is interested in funding work which benefits people in the following groups, or generalist work which includes significant numbers from more than one such group: asylum seekers and refugees; gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgendered people; gypsies and travellers; offenders and ex-offenders; older people; people from black and minority ethnic communities and migrant workers; people experiencing mental health problems; people experiencing violence or abuse.

The Ashden Trust makes grants in the fields of: Environmental Projects; People at Risk; Sustainable Regeneration; Community Arts; General. The Trust’s long-term focus on climate change and poverty alleviation allows it to explore a range of ways to tackle these enormous challenges.

The Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust awards grants to charitable organisations in the United Kingdom and overseas. The theme for 2008 is music and the arts, and the deadline for applications is 1 November. http://www.austin-hope-pilkington.org.uk

Since the revision of the Awards for All programme last April the level of incomplete applications received has risen. Most common reasons include missing governing documents, bank details and referees. When applying, make sure you use the checklist at the end of the application form to ensure that all of the required information is included and correct.

Following a review of the Awards for All England programme, changes are to be made to the small grants scheme's existing format when it comes to an end in March 2009. From 1 April 2009 each of the lottery distributors supporting the scheme will have their own small grants programmes up and running.
