The new Well-being Service is based at John Storer House and offers a variety of services throughout Charnwood. Karen Chamberlain is the Service Manager and she can be contacted on 01509 631772.

With access to all the services available at John Storer House, the Well-being Service includes the Carer's Service, Well-being Inclusion Project, Hospital To Home, Activities at Volunteer Centre Shepshed and the Sexual Health Project whilst also working closely with Community Transport.

Health and Well-being is something that most services are now recognising and planning for in their delivery, especially Healthcare providers. However what makes the Voluntary Sector stand out is the fact that we have been providing a Well-being approach to our services for a considerable length of time.

One of the key benefits of the Voluntary and Community Sector is the diversity it can offer. It tends to work in a more holistic way than statutory services, however still manages to provide quality and dependability above all else.

The role of our service is to ensure that the Voluntary Sector is represented when key partners are planning new initiatives, to ensure we are involved and consulted with, and where possible VCS services are used in parallel with more traditional health and social care solutions.

Key outcomes we hope to see as a result of our work are:

  • improved relationships between the VCS and statutory providers
  • increased awareness of the diverse range of VCS services on offer
  • new working initiatives (perhaps commissioning from GPs of VCS services)
  • individuals receiving treatments that impact positively on their Well-being
  • raising awareness of the value of self help, and offering easily identifiable pathways to self help support
  • reduction in repeat visits of patients to GP’s for non-medical treatment and an increased uptake instead to VCS services.
